Full Description

On invitation to Ashley Walters recording studio in South East London Phillip made a series of pastel portraits of the actor. When Ashley Walters saw one of the portraits, he not only asked the artist back but asked him to create album artwork for his ‘A. Walters’ album. This portrait is simply incredible. From the reverential posture looking up towards the sky, to the fact that this presents the world with a seldom seen side of the actor/rapper. Phillip Butah didn’t just give fans of Ashley Walters a typical rap album cover. He allowed them to get closer to the star than they had ever before. We are almost looking at a man’s inner most thoughts as he is captured by the artist in contemplative wonder. Ashley Walter’s trust of Phillip’s immense capability resulted in what can only be described as a standout portrait not only of the actor but of daring to dream and achieve.

His ultra realistic portraits present the viewer with not only an honest study of the subject but also a deeper connection with them. Phillip tends to punch right through the barriers and show what lies beneath.
